  • How many Apache Belles are taken each year?
    Apache Belles is comprised of 60-65 members with returning Sophomore Belles making up approximately half of that amount.
  • What are the age requirements and restrictions for the Apache Belles?
    Apache Belles are high school graduates between the ages of 17 and 22 years of age during their time as an Apache Belle. Apache Belles must be single with no children.
  • Are there scholarships for Apache Belles?
    Yes, the amount varies by semester, but Apache Belles generally receive a minimum of $500.00 per semester.
  • Can I work and be an Apache Belle?
    It is possible to work part-time, however it is important to remember that Apache Belles do have frequent rehearsals that increase as events such as Homecoming, Rose Coronation, travel opportunities and Spring Show draw near. It helps to have an employer that is understanding and will work around the Apache Belle rehearsal schedule (which is distributed at the beginning of each month).
  • Do I receive college credit for being an Apache Belle?
    Yes, Apache Belles receive credit for a Dance Practicum class, an Athletic Conditioning Class, and a Jazz Technique Class each year.
  • Am I required to live in the dormitory?
    Yes, Apache Belles all live together on their own floor of the new Louise H. and Joseph Z. Ornelas Residential Complex during both years of their Apache Belle experience which opened fall 2008. To see pictures of the rooms and the Mildred Stringer Director’s Lounge click on the Dorm Life link.
  • How much does it cost to be an Apache Belle?
    The cost varies slightly from year to year based on the items chosen for team wear that will be kept by the individual. However, uniforms are issued from the organization and only an upkeep fee of $50 is charged. Apache Belles are only responsible for the purchase of items for personal use such as makeup, tights, boots, bag, and anything that is monogrammed with that Apache Belle’s name.
  • Do I need to have dance experience?
    Yes, dance experience is necessary for a successful audition and drill team experience is an additional advantage. Candidates must be able to kick their face using proper kick technique and exhibit complete exhibition of jazz technique by demonstrating both double, triple and fuete’ turns, various pump and switch leaps, and extreme flexibility.
  • Are there fitness requirements?
    Yes, each in order to make the Apache Belles, each candidate must be able to run a 10 min mile or less, complete 36 pushups in two minutes and 81 crunches in two minutes exhibiting proper form. No one with an obvious weight issue will make the Apache Belle line.
  • What types of performance opportunities are available for Apache Belles?
    Apache Belles perform at all home TJC football games as well as traveling to TVCC and Kilgore College when those games are played at stadiums other than Rose Stadium. In addition, the Apache Belles perform each year at Rose Festival, Rose Coronation, and special community events throughout the year, various trips, Spring Show and special performances with the Elite Show Group.
  • What do I need to know for tryouts?
    Tryouts will begin with dance technique exhibition, and then there will be a preliminary cut. Those that make the preliminary cut will stay and learn a high kick and a stylized jazz routine taught by the Artistic Director of the Apache Belles, Christy Evans.
  • When are Auditions for the Apache Belles?
    2010 - April 17 & 18; June 12 & 13
  • When is the 2010 Apache Belle Spring Show?
    March 25th (7:30pm), 26th (7:30pm) and 27th (2:00pm & 7:30pm)
  • How do I obtain tickets to the 2010 Apache Belle Spring Show?
    Tickets can be obtained through the TJC Cashiers Office by calling 903-510-2244. Tickets are priced at $15 for Thursday and Friday each with $10 of every ticket price going into the Apache Belle Scholarship Fund and $20 for Saturday night with $10 of each ticket sale going to the Apache Belle Scholarship Fund.
